Kountze at a glance
What makes Kountze different: Kountze became the county seat in 1886-87 after a courthouse fire, and was founded as a railroad station named for the Kountze brothers who financed the Sabine and East Texas Railroad; today it bills itself as a gateway town to the Big Thicket National Preserve.
