DeFuniak Springs at a glance
What makes DeFuniak Springs different: DeFuniak Springs grew up around Lake DeFuniak, a nearly perfectly round spring-fed lake, and became the winter home of the Florida Chautauqua Assembly, which drew trainloads of visitors to its 4,000-seat Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood from the mid-1880s; the Walton-DeFuniak Library (founded 1886-87) is considered the oldest library in Florida still operating in its original building.
